(KJV) Mark 11:22

And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

FAITH IN GOD / MARK 11:22

The phrase in Greek is piston theou, in which “God” (theou) can be understood in the objective genitive case. This would make the phrase literally “faith of God” or “faith from God” in the sense of faith given by God for miracles. Such faith requires the response of “faith in God” from us, where God is the object of our faith. Other examples of the use of the objective genitive case include Luke 6:12 (God and object of prayer); Luke 11:42 (God the object of love); Romans 3:10 (God the object of fear). All throughout the Bible God is both the source and the object of true faith. “Abraham believed God [not just God’s promise], and it [Abrahm’s faith] was credited to him as righteousness” (Romans 4:3). We too must focus our faith and trust, not on the issue involved and not on faith itself, but fully on God (Matthew 17:20).
