BLESSED IS THE ONE WHO READS / REVELATION 1:3

(KJV) Revelation 1:3

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

This is the first of seven “beatitudes,” or blessings, found in Revelation, given to those who read, hear, “take to heart” and obey the things written in the book. The other six blessings, or statements of God’s favor, are found in Revelation 14:13; 16:15; 19:9; Revelation 20:6; Revelation 22:7; 22:14 (Luke 11:28). The fact that God’s people must follow the commands of Revelation means that this is a practical book with moral instructions and not merely a prophecy about the future. We should read the book not only to understand God’s future plans for the world and His people, but also to learn and apply great spiritual principles. This revelation, as all of God’s Word, is a call to action. Receiving spiritual insight from the Word should have a definite practical effect on our values and priorities in life. Above all, it should bring us closer to Jesus Christ in faith, hope and love.
