We have had our share of up and downs but I'm forever grateful that he is the man God blessed me with. I am happy to report we have been married for 25 years. I love this space on the internet. I create blog posts about faith, my Christian Walk, and our life on the farm. I have learned from the Word of the Lord. I believe that there is power in transparency and that as children of God, we shouldn't hold anything back. Yes, even those raw and messy parts of our Life's Journey. Over the last several years, I have wrestled with my purpose, struggled with various sins, survived some severe injuries, and was diagnosed with severe illnesses that have stopped me in my tracks. Although these dark times have been tough, my walk with God and family has proven to be so fulfilling and sweet, regardless of any earthly circumstance. Christ is enough! THE COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST / 2 THESSALONIANS 2:1

In his first letter to the Thessalonians, Paul assured all true followers of Christ that they would be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and thus they would be with their Lord forever (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). The apostle was describing the event that would save them from God’s coming wrath, or judgment, on the earth (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 1 Thessalonians 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:10). Now however, false teachers were claiming that “the day of the Lord” (2 Thessalonians 2:2; the period of God’s end-time judgments on the earth, ending with His return to reign on earth) had already begun and that God’s final wrath was being poured out on the earth.

And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.

THEY DID NOT LISTEN TO HIM / EXODUS 6:9

God did not bring Israel out of Egypt because they had great faith, but because of His grace – undeserved favor – and His faithfulness to His promises (Genesis 17:1-8; 50:24). At first, their faith was weak. But as God revealed His power and concern for them through the ten plagues on Egypt, He built up their faith until they were able to trust Him and were ready to obey (Exodus 12:28). That is to say, God rescued them by grace through faith – the same way Jesus now saves people spiritually (Ephesians 2:8-9).

I WILL TAKE YOU AS MY OWN PEOPLE AND I WILL BE YOUR GOD / EXODUS 6:7

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Exodus 6:7

 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

I WILL TAKE YOU AS MY OWN PEOPLE AND I WILL BE YOUR GOD / EXODUS 6:7

Exodus 6:6-7 describes the most important meaning and purpose of Israel’s exodus (mass departure) from Egypt and the covenant they received from God at Sinai (Exodus 19:5). The Lord promises to resume Israel from bondage (Exodus 6:6), adopt them as His people (Exodus 6:7) and be their God (Exodus 6:7). In return, the people promised to do the will of their Redeemer – the One who had saved them (Exodus 19-23).

  1. These verses emphasize that Israel was helpless to overcome the power that enslaved them. Only God could free them (Exodus 6:5-6). Because of God’s love of His people and His covenant with their forefathers, He would certainly set them free (Exodus 6:6-8; Deuteronomy 7:7-8).
  2. Israel’s release from Egypt by God’s power represented the transfer of the ownership of Israel to God Himself. The people of Israel belonged to God Himself. The people of Israel belonged to God because He created them, chose them (Exodus 4:22) and then redeemed them – brought them back – out of slavery.
  3. Israel’s redemption (rescue, liberation) from Egypt was a sign of how Jesus would provide redemption – spiritual salvation and freedom – for the sinful human race through His death on the cross. All those who accept Christ’s sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin and trust Him to lead their lives are set free from the power of Satan, sin and the world. They now belong to God and can trust His love and promises.

(KJV) Exodus 6:3

And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Jehovah was I not known to them.

BY MY NAME THE LORD I DID NOT MAKE MYSELF KNOW TO THEM / EXODUS 6:3

God did not make Himself known to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob by the name “LORD” (Hebrew Yahweh, Genesis 2:4).

  1. This does not mean that these forefathers of faith were not acquainted with the name, but only that God did not reveal the full implication, or meaning, of the character and power of that name (Exodus 3:14). The names used for God always reflect something about His character and power. They had heard and used the name Yahweh, but they more often referred to Him as “God Almighty,” a name that emphasizes His power to fulfill anything He has promised (Genesis 17:1). 
  2. Yahweh is God’s covenant-keeping name, which focuses on how He rescues people and brings them back into a personal relationship with God (Exodus 6:6). Abraham did not live to see the covenant of Genesis 15 fulfilled, but he did experience God’s power.

ASK THE LORD TO SEND / MATTHEW 9:38

Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

ASK THE LORD TO SEND / MATTHEW 9:38

  1. This verse expresses one of God’s most important spiritual principles about our actions and our part in His plans. Our part in the work is necessary because before God takes action, He usually inspires His people to pray. Only after they have prayed does God respond and finish what He desires to happen. What it means is that God has limited Himself, choosing to accomplish His plans through the prayers of His faithful people. 
  2. It is clear from the context of the passage (Matthew 9:35-10:1, 8) that the kind of workers Jesus desires in His kingdom are those who are willing and spiritually prepared to (a) spread His message and teach others what it means to follow Jesus and live according to His purposes (Matthew 9:35), (b) heal the sick (Matthew 9:35; 10:1,8). (c)  drive out evil spirits (Matthew 10:1, 8) These acts are possible through relying on God and the power of His Holy Spirit.

Jesus challenges His followers to always remember that those who are spiritually lost – who do not know and follow God – have a priceless, eternal soul and will spend eternity in heaven or in hell. We must reach them with the love and message of Christ while there is still time. Many of them are spiritually ready to receive the message. They can be saved only if someone presents to them the good news of forgiveness and new life through Jesus Christ (Matthew 10:28).

NEW WINE INTO OLD WINESKINS / NEW WINE PRESERVED / MATTHEW 9:17

Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

NEW WINE INTO OLD WINESKINS

In ancient times, goatskins were used to hold wine. This verse has been interpreted in various ways by Biblical commentators. Two views are:

  1. The “new wine” started as fresh grape juice. As it began to ferment (as the sugars turned to alcohol), the wine expanded in the process and the new wineskins would stretch and not break. But used wineskins, already stretched, would break. The “new wine” represented the message of Jesus, which brought a newness that cannot be held within old forms. Questions about this issue and interpretation may arise from the fact that the unstable and vigorous process of fermentation was sometimes enough to burst even the newest and strongest of tightly sealed wineskins (Job 32:19). 

A second interpretation of this parable (a story that teaches a moral lesson or teaches a spiritual principle) focuses on the importance of keeping and maintaining both the new wine and the new wineskins. (a) The “new wine” was fresh, unfermented (non-intoxicating) grape juice, representing the original and true message of salvation through Jesus Christ – a message that spreads in the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus’ primary concern was that the original gospel (“good news”) and life-transforming power of the Spirit would be kept from change, corruption or loss. This interpretation would be consistent with Christ’s concern that the gospel message (new wine) not be altered by the “yeast” (teachings) of the Pharisees and teachers of the law. Yeast causes the fermenting process, just as the Pharisees’ teaching would corrupt God’s message by denying the spirit and principles behind God’s laws and commands (Matthew 16:6, 12; Exodus 12:19; 1 Corinthians 5:7).          (b) In ancient times, in order to keep the sweetness of the juice for a longer period of time, people would strain or boil the juice, bottle it and place it in a cool area. New wineskins were required because they would be free from yeast cells. If placed in old wineskins, new wine would more easily begin to ferment because of the yeast that remained in the skins from the previous wine. The fermentation process could then cause the loss of both the new wine and the wineskins (which would burst from pressure). Columella, a great Roman authority on agriculture in the first century A.D., wrote that in order to keep new wine “always sweet” it must be put into a new sealed container.

NEW WINE PRESERVED

Christ addresses preserving the new wine – His message of hope and spiritual salvation – so it would not be compromised, corrupted or lost.

And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

THEN THEY WILL FAST / MATTHEW 9:15

It is clear that Jesus expected His followers to fast (go without food periodically in order to give greater time and attention to spiritual matters and prayer) after He was gone. We are now living in the time of the “bridegroom’s” absence (the period between His ascension into heaven and His return). The church (Christ’s “bride,” Revelation 19:7; 22:17) awaits and looks forward to the Lord’s return (Matthew 25:6; John 14:3). For this reason, fasting is also

  1. A sign of a Christion’s longing to be united with Christ at His return,
  2. A means of preparing for Christ’s coming,
  3. A way of mourning Christ’s absence and

A sign of sorrow for the sin and spiritual decay of the world (Matthew 6:16).

Matthew 9:11-13 reveals a principle that should guide us in our relationships with those who do not know and follow Christ. Our primary interaction should not be for pleasure, entertainment or close friendship, but for the sake of doing good, being an example and showing the way of salvation – what it means to have a personal relationship with God (Matthew 9:12; Psalms 1:1). At no time should a follower of Christ date or marry someone who is not a committed Christian (1 Corinthians 7:39).

(KJV) Exodus 5:23

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

YOU HAVE NOT RESCUED YOUR PEOPLE AT ALL / EXODUS 5:23

God’s promise to rescue His people seemed more unlikely than ever because the situation was becoming worse rather than better (Exodus 5:21).

  1. Through these discouraging circumstances, God wanted to teach the people that often before He sends His miracles and the victory of freedom there will be troubles and difficulties that appear to make the situation hopeless. 
  2. Through times of disappointment, a believer must have faith in God’s Word and continue to trust Him to work out His plans in His own time. (Romans 8:28).
