KILLED THE EGYPTIAN / EXODUS 2:12

(KJV) Exodus 2:12

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

KILLED THE EGYPTIAN / EXODUS 2:12

The fact that Moses was willing to identify with God’s people and defend the Hebrews may have caused him to act too suddenly and without wisdom, but it also showed that he had faith in God. Moses rejected sin’s temporary pleasures for the honor of suffering for God and with God’s people (Acts 7:23-29; Hebrews 11:24-29).

MOSES / EXODUS 2:11

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Exodus 2:11

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

MOSES / EXODUS 2:11

Many things that happened in Moses’ life were prophetic signs of things that would happen in the life of Jesus Christ.

  1. There were attempts to kill both Moses and Jesus as infants (Exodus 1:16; Matthew 2:13).
  2. Both Moses and Jesus served in the roles of prophet (Deuteronomy 18:15, 18; Acts 3:22; 7:37), priest (Psalms 99:6; Hebrews 7:24), King (Deuteronomy 33:4-5) and shepherd (Exodus 3:1; John 10:11-14).
  3. They both suffered with God’s people (Titus 2:14; Hebrews 11:25-26) and freed people from slavery (Acts 7:35). And while Moses delivered the terms of God’s first “old” covenant (Exodus 19:5; 34:10), Jesus established the new covenant relationship between God and people (Hebrews 8:5-13).

A SON / EXODUS 2:1-2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Exodus 2:1-2

And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi. And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

A SON / EXODUS 2:1-2

The “son” referred to is Moses (Exodus 2:10). His birth, his rescue from death and all the events of his youth were under God’s care and direction. God planned that Moses would be prepared to lead Israel out of captivity. We must realize that God often works in ways we may not understand. But we can be confident that he knows what is best and will accomplish His purpose in our lives if we trust Him (Matthew 2:13; Romans 8:28).

HE COMES TO BE GLORIFIED / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:10

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 1:10

When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

HE COMES TO BE GLORIFIED / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:10

This passage is not speaking of the time when believers will be taken from earth to meet Christ in the air (John 14:2-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:17). Rather, it speaks of Christ’s literal return to earth at the end of the tribulation period. At this time, He will come in power and great glory to destroy the present world system and establish His thousand-year reign on earth to close out time as we know it (Revelation 19:11 – 20:4).

EVERLASTING DESTRUCTION / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:9

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 1:9

Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

EVERLASTING DESTRUCTION / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:9

This is the clearest statement in Paul’s letters concerning the future eternal punishment of the wicked (Matthew 10:28 on hell). This does not refer to annihilation (to wipe out of existence) because even the souls of those who reject God will exist eternally. The meaning of this phrase is more like “complete ruin” – as the ungodly are totally defeated, eternally condemned and separated from Christ’s presence forever in “the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

GIVE RELIEF TO YOU / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:6-7

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 1:6-7

Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

GIVE RELIEF TO YOU / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:6-7

While God’s justice means punishment for those who stand against Him and cause trouble for His people, it means relief and reward for those who are faithful to Him. Both of these sides to God’s justice will be revealed when Christ returns. God will begin to repay the wicked (2 Thessalonians 1:6) at the beginning of the tribulation (when He unleashes His severe end-time judgments on the earth, Revelation 6). However, complete justice and punishment (2 Thessalonians 1:6-9) will occur after the Lord Jesus returns to earth at the end of the time to destroy the wicked (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; Revelation 19:11-12). Then will come their final judgment and eternal punishment (Revelation 20:11-15). But God’s faithful people will experience relief from the world’s punishment when He removes them from the earth. Then, when the Lord Jesus returns to earth to destroy the forces of evil and govern the human race for the last period of history, full justice will finally occur for all. While the wicked will be appropriately judged, Christ’s faithful followers will be fully proven to be righteous and true (Revelation 6:9-11; 19:14-15) and will reign with Him on earth. Their end will be to go on to the reward of living with Christ throughout eternity (Revelation 21).

GOD’S JUDGMENT IS RIGHT / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Thessalonians 1:5

Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

GOD’S JUDGMENT IS RIGHT / 2 THESSALONIANS 1:5

The Thessalonians were being faithful to their relationship with God despite extreme opposition and persecution (2 Thessalonians 1:4). Their attitude through suffering was “evidence” of God’s right judgment, meaning that God judged the Thessalonians to be worthy of representing Christ and His kingdom for which they were suffering. For this reason, God would not leave them on their own but would provide the strength and resources necessary to endure their trials. The trials would develop greater moral character and spiritual strength in them, and they would also prove that God was on their side. Their unfair suffering was also a sign that the persecutors – those causing the trouble – were opposing God’s own people and would in time experience God’s justice and punishment (2 Thessalonians 1:5-9).

SLAVE MASTERS OVER THEM TO OPPRESS THEM / EXODUS 1:11

God permitted and used Israel’ time in slavery to keep them from serving false gods and from adopting the immoral lifestyles of most Egyptians. It also helped them learn to depend on God and prepare them for the miraculous way God would set them free (Joshua 24:14; Ezekiel 23:8).

WHO DID NOT KNOW ABOUT JOSEPH / EXODUS 1:8

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Exodus 1:8

Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

WHO DID NOT KNOW ABOUT JOSEPH / EXODUS 1:8

The book of Exodus continues the story of God’s dealings with Israel’s descendants that began in Genesis.

  1. The length of time between Joseph’s death (Genesis 50:26) and the beginning of Israel’s persecution by the Egyptians (Exodus 1:11) was about 220 years.
  2. If the date of the exodus (when the Israelites left Egypt) is set at around 1440 B.C., then the pharaoh “who did not know about Joseph” was probably Thutmose I (1539-1514 B.C.) (Acts 7:18). In that case, the ruling pharaoh when Israel left Egypt was probably Amenhotep II (1447-1421 B.B.). The total time of the Israelites’ stay in Egypt was 430 years (Exodus 12:40).

And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

MULTIPLIED GREATLEY / EXODUS 1:6-7

The community of Israelites grew rapidly according to the promises God made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Genesis 12:2; Genesis 17:2; Genesis 17:6; Genesis 22:17; Genesis 48:4; Acts 7:17). By the time they left Egypt, the Israelites numbered about 600,000 men, besides women and children (Exodus 12:37). God told them that they would be slaves in Egypt and that later they would be freed; both prophecies were fulfilled (Exodus 1:11; Genesis 15:13-14).
