HOLY GROUND / EXODUS 3:5

(KJV) Exodus 3:5

And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

HOLY GROUND / EXODUS 3:5

The Lord first revealed His holiness to Moses. Holiness refers to the completeness, purity and perfection of God’s character. It requires separation from sin and evil. It also requires a commitment to do what is right and to remain in a right relationship with God. Moses constantly had to keep in mind that the God he served was holy -so holy that a human could not even look fully at Him without dying (Exodus 3:6; 19:21; Isaiah 6:1-7; 1 Timothy 6:16). God’s first revelation to Abraham was of His great power, but to Moses it was of His holiness. This illustrates the principle of “progressive revelation,” meaning that God often reveals Himself and His plan to people in different ways and through a process of stages over time (Exodus 6:1-6; Hebrews 1:1-2).

THE ANGEL OF THE LORD / EXODUS 3:2

And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

THE ANGEL OF THE LORD / EXODUS 3:2

The “angel of the LORD” is the Lord Himself (Exodus 3:4-6). God also appeared to Abraham as the “angel of the LORD” (Genesis 22:11-13).

MOSES WAS TENDING THE FLOCK / EXODUS 3:1

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

MOSES WAS TENDING THE FLOCK / EXODUS 3:1

Even though Moses had received the highest level of education in Pharaoh’s royal household, it was not enough to equip him for God’s work. He needed time alone with God and forty difficult years of caring for sheep in the desert to prepare him for his future task, which was to shepherd (lead and care for) Israel through the desert (1 Corinthians 2:14).

This promise may refer to the removal of any memory that might cause us suffering, regret or remorse. In heaven, nothing that involves deficiency, suffering or sorrow remains (Revelation 7:16).

GREAT MULTITUDE / REVELATION 7:9

(KJV) Revelation 7:9

After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

GREAT MULTITUDE / REVELATION 7:9

John describes a scene in heaven of a great multitude of people from all nations who have received spiritual salvation through faith in Christ. They will be with God (Revelation 7:15), free from pain and sorrow (Revelation 7:16-17; Revelation 6:9). Many believe that this multitude saved by the “blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:14) are those who accepted Christ and followed Him during the tribulation period because John states that they “have come out of the great tribulation” (Revelation 7:14). Those who accept Christ are targets of persecution from Satan and evil people (Revelation 12:9-17). God, however, honors His people and rewards them with eternity in His presence. White clothing (Revelation 3:5) and palm branches symbolize victory and the fact that they now share in Christ’s triumph.

SEAL OF THE LIVING GOD / REVELATION 7:2

SEAL OF THE LIVING GOD / REVELATION 7:2

The seal was a tool or ring that stamped an owner’s mark of identification on something. God’s seal on a person identifies that pers as belonging to God, devoted to His service and under His care (Ephesians 1:13).

And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

144,000 FROM ALL THE TRIBES OF ISRAEL / REVELATION 7:4

The 144,000 are described as servants of God (Revelation 7:3) from the tribes of Israel (Revelation 7:4-8). God will put a seal, or mark, on their foreheads to reflect His ownership and the fact that these people are set apart for His special purpose (Revelation 9:4; Ezekiel 9:1-6; 2 Timothy 2:19).

  1. Some Bible interpreters believe these new believers from the tribes (family lines) of Israel will be commissioned and empowered by the Holy Spirit to preach the true message of Christ during the tribulation.
  2. Their being sealed by God does not mean they are protected from natural physical death or from being killed as a result of persecution for their faith (Revelation 7:14). However, they are spared and protected from God’s direct judgment and from torture or harm by demonic forces unleashed on humanity during this time (Revelation 9:4).

And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

I SAW FOUR ANGELS / REVELATION 7:1

Revelation 7 is an interlude, or pause, between the sixth and seventh seals. At this point, John sees two visions that are distinct from the events connected to the opening of the seals. These visions involve a revelation of those who believed and became faithful to Christ during the great tribulation. Those who take their stand for God (Revelation 6:17) are both Jew (Revelation 7:3-8) and non-Jew (Revelation 7:9-10, 13-15). They accept the eternal message of Christ proclaimed by angels (Revelation 14:6).

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

THEIR CRY WENT UP TO GOD / EXODUS 2:23

After many years of oppression, the people of Israel began to call desperately on God for help. When they turned to the Lord, He responded to them (Exodus 2:23-25). Before this time, many of them had been worshiping Egypt’s false gods and had probably been trying to depend on them for help and relief (Joshua 24:14; Ezekiel 20:5-10).

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Exodus 2:15

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

MIDIAN / EXODUS 2:15

The Midianites were descendants of Abraham and his second wife, Keturah (whom Abraham married after Sarah’s death). They lived south and southeast of Canaan. Moses stayed in Midian for forty years (Exodus 7:7; Acts 7:23, 30). During this time, God prepared Moses for his future task in this same region – the Desert of Sinai. God did some of His most important work in Moses’ life while he was in the desert.
