TONGUES, THEY WILL BE STILLED / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:8

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 13:8

Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

TONGUES, THEY WILL BE STILLED / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:8

Spiritual gifts such as prophecy, tongues and knowledge will cease at the end of this age (following Christ’s return to earth and the final defeat of evil; Revelation 20). For now, these gifts represent what is partial or incomplete (1 Corinthians 13:9), but they will unnecessary “when perfection comes” (1 Corinthians 13:10), at the end of history. Then, the believer’s knowledge and character will become perfect in eternity with Christ (1 Corinthians 13:12; 1:7). Until then, we need the Holy Spirit and His gifts in our churches. There is no indication here or anywhere else in Scripture that the work of the Holy Spirit through His gifts would end at the end of the first-century era. The gifts of the Spirit have a place and meaning as much now as in the early church because Christians today need the same power, guidance and encouragement to live for Christ and accomplish His purposes in their generation.

LOVE IS PATIENT / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-7

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

LOVE IS PATIENT / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-7

This section describes love as an activity and a behavior, not just as an inner feeling, emotion or motivation. the various aspects of love listed here characterize God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Every follower of Christ must aim to grow in this kind of love, so as to truly become more like Jesus (Matthew 22:39; Mark 12:30).

I AM NOTHING / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 13:2

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

I AM NOTHING / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:2

Those whose lives are filled with “religious activities” (including the exercise of gifts like tongues, prophecy and great works of faith), “but have not love” (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) do not know and understand true spirituality. It matters very little how much they know or do because God is not impressed with religious knowledge or works, which cannot save us spiritually (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). Without love, it all adds up to “nothing” in god’s view. Anything we do for God must flow out of true love for Him and others. Without such love, we have no real place in God’s kingdom (Matthew 7:21-23).

BUT HAVE NOT LOVE / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:1

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 1 Corinthians 13:1

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

BUT HAVE NOT LOVE / 1 CORINTHIANS 13:1

In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul continues to address issues and questions about spiritual gifts. His focus here is that having spiritual gifts without God’s love amounts to nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). The “most excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31) is the exercise of spiritual gifts in an attitude of sincere love (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). Love must be the guiding principle – the main motivation – behind the exercise of all spiritual expressions because love is the only context in which spiritual gifts can truly fulfill God’s purposes. For this reason, Paul encourages the Corinthians to “follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts” (1 Corinthians 14:1). They must seriously desire to be used by the Spirit because they truly want to help, comfort and bless others.

BE FRUITFUL AND INCREASE / GENESIS 1:28

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Genesis 1:28

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

BE FRUITFUL AND INCREASE / GENESIS 1:28

God commanded man and woman to reproduce and to rule over the earth and the animal kingdom.

  1. The union of a man and a woman was to form family relationships. God stated this specific purpose and gave priority to the role of a godly family and the nurturing, or bringing up, of godly children in a world that turns from Him (Ephesians 5:21; Titis 2:4-5).
  2. God expected them to consecrate (set apart, commit or reserve) everything on earth to Him. He expected Adam and Eve to take care of it in a way that honored Him (Psalms 8:6-8; Hebrews 2:7-9).
  3. God placed the earth’s future under their authority. When they defied God and rejected His instructions, they brought ruin, hardship and suffering to all creation (Genesis 3:14-24; Romans 8:19-22).
  4. Jesus Christ alone will restore the earth to its perfect purpose when He returns at the close of history (Romans 8:19-25; 1 Corinthians 15:24-28; Hebrews 2:5-8; Revelation 21:1).

NO FEAR OF GOD / ROMANS 3:10

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Romans 3:18

NO FEAR OF GOD / ROMANS 3:10

Why does the disgraceful condition of humanity continue? Because “there is not fear of God before their eyes.” To fear God means to have a deep wonder and reverence for Hom, which keeps us aware of our accountability to the Almighty God. If people had a true fear of God, they would have desired to be restored to God and to make peace with Him. “Through the fear of the Lord a man avoids evil” (Proverbs 16:6; Proverbs 3:7; 8:13; 9:10; Acts 5:11).

NO ONE RIGHTEOUS / ROMANS 3:10-18

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Romans 3:10-18

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

15 Their feet are swift to shed blood:

16 Destruction and misery are in their ways:

17 And the way of peace have they not known:

18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

NO ONE RIGHTEOUS / ROMANS 3:10-18

These verses reveal the facts about human nature. All people in their natural state are sinners, separated from God and prone to go their own way (Isaiah 53:6). Our entire being has been affected by sin. Apart from God we are drawn toward the evil and rebellious ways of the world, the devil (Matthew 4:10) and the selfishness of our human nature. All are guilty of rejecting godliness and embracing selfishness.

ARE ALL UNDER SIN / ROMANS 3:9

(KJV) Romans 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

ARE ALL UNDER SIN / ROMANS 3:9

In Romans 1-2, Paul has shown that all people, Jews and non-Jews alike, are in spiritual slavery to sin. In Romans 3:9-18, he explains why as he teaches that all people possess a sinful nature – a nature that they are born with that is constantly pulling them toward sin and evil. The result is that all are guilty before God and deserve the greatest penalty: death (Romans 3:23) and permanent separation from God. But God’s loving response to this tragic situation is to provide a way of restoring us to a right relationship with Himself. For this reason, He offers grace, forgiveness, spiritual salvation and eternal life to all who accept the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, and yield their lives to the One who died to pay the price for our sin (Romans 3:21-26).

THERE WAS EVENING, AND THERE WAS MORNING – THE FIRST DAY / GENESIS 1:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Genesis 1:5

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

THERE WAS EVENING, AND THERE WAS MORNING – THE FIRST DAY / GENESIS 1:5

This phrase is repeated six times in this chapter (Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31). The Hebrew word for day is yom, which normally means a twenty-four-hour period (Genesis 7;7; Matthew 17:1), or the daylight portion of the twenty-four hours (“day” as distinct from “night”). But it also can refer to a time period of undetermined length (“harvest time,” Proverbs 25:13). Many believe the creation days were twenty-four-hour days because each had an “evening” and a “morning” (Genesis 1:5; Exodus 20:11). Others believe that “evening” and “morning” simply mean that each evening marked an end to that stage of creation and the next morning indicated a new beginning.

LABOR DAY PRAYER

Labor Day is more than just a long weekend; it’s an opportunity to honor the dignity of work and contributions of those who labor tirelessly in various fields. As we celebrate this day, it’s essential to pause and seek God’s blessings over work, acknowledging that all we do is a gift from Him. Whether you’re professional, a tradesperson, a farmer, rancher, homemaker, or engaged in any other form of work, dedicating your labor to God through prayer can bring a renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment.

Labor Day is also a time to pray for those who are struggling with work-related challenges – whether it’s joblessness, difficult work conditions, or the need for strength and endurance.

Let us come together in prayer, asking God for strength, guidance, and blessings for our labor.

Lord Jesus, I come before You with gratitude for the work You have given me. Thank You for the skills, opportunities, and resources that allow me to contribute meaningfully.

“Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human maters.”

I dedicate my labor to You, asking for Your guidance and strength. Bless the work of my hands and help me to do all things with excellence and integrity.

for those seeking employment or facing challenges at work, I pray for Your provision and favor.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
