No earthly king was ever promised authority over all nations as an inheritance. This was a promise only to be fulfilled in the Messiah/King, Jesus (Zechariah 9:10).

(KJV) Psalms 145:8

The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

THE LORD IS GRACIOUS / PSALMS 145:8

This phrase is often repeated and expresses God’s delight in showing mercy (Exodus 34:6-7). When He sees misery, it brings out His compassion. Wehn we offend Him, He is slow to become angry and quick to show love and mercy to those who humbly request His forgiveness (Exodus 3:7; Judges 2:18).

(David’s Psalm of praise.) I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

2Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

EVERY DAY I WILL PRAISE YOU / PSALMS 145:1-2

We should never let a day pass without praising and thanking God for His blessings and gifts to us. He is our Maker, Redeemer (Savior) and Provider (Psalms 34:1). In other words, we owe Him our lives because

  1. He created us.
  2. He paid the highest price to “buy back” (redeem) our lives and set us free from sin (Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians 6:20).
  3. He continues to generously proved everything we need. All of this is more than enough reason to be eternally grateful to God and to honor Him with our lives.

IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED / GENESIS 1:1

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED / GENESIS 1:1

The writer uses the phrase, “in the beginning,” with the definite purpose of drawing attention to the fact that all things had a real beginning. Other ancient religions refer to things being created from something else that was already existing. But the Bible reveals God as the One who created everything out of nothing. God is the One and Only true and eternal, self-existent God (having forever existed in Himself) who reveals Himself in the first verse of the Bible as the Creator of heaven and earth. As one continues through the Bible the full nature of God is explained. The Scriptures reveal the primary concepts (understandable ideas) that helps us know the nature of God. They reveal that He is all-powerful (Isaiah 40:15; Daniel 4:34-35). He is everywhere present (Psalms 139:7-10; Matthew 6:25-29). He is all-knowing (Ephesians 1:3-12; Romans 8:27-29). In addition to His full nature, God communicates His moral qualities. He is good (Psalms 89:49; 1 John 4:8), holy (Leviticus 11:44; Isaiah 6:1-5) righteous (Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalms 71:19). Other religions view history as an endless series of cycles. But the Bible presents history in a linear way, or with a definite beginning and a God-given goal. God had a plan in creation, and He will carry it out.

The first verse of the Bible contains several important truths.

  1. Since God is the source of all that exists, human beings and nature are not self-existent, but rather owe their ability to live and exist to Him.
  2. Everything that exists is good if it is in right relationship to God and dependent on Him (for its highest purpose).
  3. All life and creation can have eternal meaning and purpose.
  4. As the Creator, God has sovereign (supreme) rights, such as complete authority and control over all creation. That is, he can do whatever he desires in relation to all he has made. In a fallen, or damaged world, one in which people have chosen to defy God and go their own way, God exercises His rights by offering redemption. Redemption refers to God’s plan to “reclaim” or “restore” individuals from a state of rebellion against Him and bring them back into right relationship with Him (Exodus 6:6; 15:13; Deuteronomy 21:8; Luke 1:68; Romans 3:24; Galatians 3:13; 1 Peter 1:18).

THE BLOOD OF BULLS / HEBREWS 10:4

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Hebrews 10:3-4
But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

4For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

THE BLOOD OF BULLS / HEBREWS 10:4

The blood of animals was only a temporary provision or atonement (“covering over”) for the sins of the people. Ultimately, a human was needed to serve as substitute for humanity. That is why Christ came to earth and was born as a human so that He might offer Himself in our place (Hebrews 2:9, 14). In addition, only a human who was free from sin and lived perfectly by God’s standard could take our full punishment for sin (Hebrews 2:14-18; 4:15) and perfectly satisfy the demands of God’s justice and holiness (Romans 3:25-26). Jesus Christ was the only one who could fulfill this criteria.

WILL APPEAR A SECOND TIME / HEBREWS 9:28

Under the old covenant, Israelites watched and waited intently for the high priest to reappear after he had gone into the inner sanctuary (the Most Holy Place) to make atonement (“covering over” for sin) with the blood of the sacrifice. In a similar way, Christ’s followers, knowing that their high priest has entered the heavenly sanctuary as their advocate, wait with a deep and focused hope for His reappearing to being a complete salvation by taking them to be with Him in heaven forever (John 14:3; 2 Timothy 4:8).

WITHOUT THE SHEDDING OF BLOOD … NO FORGIVENESS / HEBREWS 9:22

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Hebrews 9:22

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

WITHOUT THE SHEDDING OF BLOOD … NO FORGIVENESS / HEBREWS 9:22

Sin – which is opposition, rebellion and defiance toward God and His standards – is so radically opposed to God’s perfect character that it requires the most extreme penalty: death and separation from God (Romans 6:23; Isaiah 59:2). Forgiveness can only be provided at the cost of life (Leviticus 17:11). But imperfect sacrifices could never permanently remove sin and guilt (Hebrews 10:4). Even our own lives are not worthy to pay the full price since death would simply give us what we deserve for defying God. Only God Himself could provide a sacrifice that satisfies His perfect justice and pays the penalty for sin once and for all (Hebrews 7:27; 9:12, 29; 10:10; 1 Peter 3:18). God’s Provision came through the willing sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 3:25).

WILL BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT / JOHN 1:33

(KJV) John 1:33
And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

WILL BAPTIZE WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT / JOHN 1:33

The word “with” is a translation of the Greek proposition en and can mean “by,” “with” or “in.” An alternate translation would be “he who will baptize in the Holy Spirit,” just as “baptize with water” may be understood as “baptize in water” (the word “baptize” literally means to “immerse,” or put under water).

All the Gospels (the accounts of Jesus’ and ministry by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) state that Jesus is “he who will baptize with [in] the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 3:11; Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16; John 1:33). This baptism – a sign of cleansing and empowering – was to be the dynamic characteristic and distinction of Jesus’ followers. The Holy Spirit would be poured out on them (and into them) so that they might continue to carry His message of spiritual salvation throughout the world (Acts 1:8). The task of baptizing in the Spirit is the ongoing purpose of Jesus to this day (Matthew 3:11; Acts 2:39).

LAMB OF GOD / JOHN 1:29

START YOUR DAYILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 1:29
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

LAMB OF GOD / JOHN 1:29

Jesus is described as the Lamb (a lamb was used in Old Testament sacrifices – particularly the Passover – to make atonement, or “covering,” for sin) provided by God Himself to pay the death penalty that all humanity deserved for rebellion against God (Exodus 12:13-17; Isaiah 53:7). While Old Testament animal sacrifices were imperfect and could not actually remove sin, Jesus Christ would be the perfect and sinless sacrifice, paying the full penalty of sin once and for all. By His death, Jesus broke the power of guilt and sin and opened the way to God for all who accept Jesus as Forgiver of their sins and Leader of their lives.
