(KJV) John 5:39-40
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
YOU DILIGENTLY STUDY / JOHN 5:39-40
Though many of the Jews knew what God’s Word in the Old Testament said, they did not understand what it really meant (John 5:38). The Jewish leaders even studied the Scriptures in great detail, and yet they did not understand or accept the One of whom the Word spoke. This shows us that simply knowing what God’s Word says, or even believing and following it to a degree, is not enough to save us spiritually. We must accept Christ personally and devote our lives to following Him. This includes living by the principles and purposes revealed in His Word.
