THROUGH THE SEA ON DRY GROUND – A WALL OF WATER ON THEIR RIGHT AND ON THEIR LEFT / EXODUS 14:21-22

(KJV) Exodus 14:21-22

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ²² And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

The Red Sea is literally “Sea of Reeds” (Hebrew Yam Suph), which is thought to be the southern end of Lake Menzaleh, the actual Red Sea is south of this, in the direction Israel traveled on their way from Egypt to Mount Sinai. The crossing of the sea (Exodus 13:18 – 14:31) was only possible through a miracle of God (Exodus 14:21). Bible writers used this event to remind God’s people of His power and greatness Joshua 24:6-7; Psalms 106:7-8; Isaiah 51:15; Jeremiah 31:35; Nahum 1:3-4). Israel’s miraculous escape through the Red Sea confirmed God’s promise: “The LORD will fight for you” (Exodus 14:14).

A wind strong enough to push back two walls of water was not a natural happening; it was a miracle. The water was piled up, or gathered together, on both sides, leaving a path that may have been several miles wide (Exodus 15:8; Psalms 74:13).
