WOMAN STAND BEFORE THE LORD / NUMBERS 5:18

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Numbers 5:18

After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse.

WOMAN STAND BEFORE THE LORD / NUMBERS 5:18

If a husband had reason to think that his wife had committed adultery but there was no evidence, the husband could have the wife brought before the Lord. There her guilt or innocence would be determined. This was to protect her if she was innocent. She would become sick as a result of God’s judgment only if she was guilty (Numbers 5:21-28).

SEND AWAY FROM THE CAMP / NUMBERS 5:2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Numbers 5:2

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is defiled by the dead:

SEND AWAY FROM THE CAMP / NUMBERS 5:2

People who had infectious, or contagious, diseases or discharges from their skin, or those who had come into contact with the dead, were ceremonially unclean (Leviticus 12:1-2; Leviticus 13:3). Such people were sent outside the camp because God would not dwell in the presence of uncleanness (Numbers 5:). The New Testament applies the moral principle behind this rule to church members who boldly, and without shame, stand against God’s truth or righteousness. They must be put out of the congregation if the body of believers expects to receive God’s blessing and presence (1 Corinthians 5:2; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18; 2 Thessalonians 3:14; 2 John 10- 11; Matthew 18:15).

(KJV) Numbers 4:20

But they shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die.

OR THEY WILL DIE / NUMBERS 4:20

God’s holiness will either destroy (Numbers 4:15, 20; Leviticus 10:2) or sanctify (make holy) (Isaiah 6:1-7; Leviticus 19:2). God was teaching that His presence brings blessing if He is obeyed and honored, but it brings judgment if He is treated with disrespect and dishonor (1 Corinthians 11:27-29).

FIRSTBORN / NUMBERS 3:43

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Numbers 3:43

And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty and two thousand two hundred and threescore and thirteen.

FIRSTBORN / NUMBERS 3:43

The number given for the “firstborn males” was small compared with the nearly 600,000 men mentioned in Numbers 1:46. Some have explained that the smaller number of “firstborn” males is the count only of those who were born between the time of the exodus (Exodus 13:1-2) and the numbering census of the tribes that occurred thirteen months later.

ANOINTED PRIESTS / NUMBERS 3:2-3

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Numbers 3:2-3

And these are the names of the sons of Aaron; Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests which were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest’s office.

ANOINTED PRIESTS / NUMBERS 3:2-3

The purpose of anointing the priests was to “ordain” them to God’s service. This meant that their lives were set apart from all other things and given completely to serve God.

  1. Likewise, in the New Testament, when believers are anointed by the Holy Spirit, they are set apart and empowered for service and witness in God’s kingdom (Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4).
  2. The Hebrew name “Messiah” and the Greek name “Christ” both mean “the Anointed One” (Matthew 1:1). Christ did all of His works and ministry under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

EACH MAN … UNDER HIS OWN STANDARD / NUMBERS 1:52

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Numbers 1:52

And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts.

EACH MAN … UNDER HIS OWN STANDARD / NUMBERS 1:52

The Israelite camp was organized with an inner circle of Levites (the family tribe that filled the ministry and worship-leading roles) surrounding the tabernacle (the portable sanctuary and place of worship signifying God’s presence among the people). Then there was an outer circle of the twelve other tribes, three on each side of the tabernacle. Their method of marching or traveling was also organized in such a way that when the cloud of God’s presence lifted, they could move quickly. Also, when the cloud settled, they could find their places in the camp without confusion. The Bible emphasizes the importance of organization so that work can be done smoothly and without waste of time or effort. The tabernacle in the center of the camp was a symbol that the life of the nation centered around the Lord and worshiping Him as their Redeemer (Savior, Rescuer, Life-giver).

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Numbers 1:46

Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

603,550 / Numbers 1:46

This was the total number of males above the age of twenty, excluding the Levites (Numbers 1:45-47). Therefore, the total of the entire nation of Israel was perhaps around two million people. For this many people to have been continually maintained in the desert would have required a continuous miracle, a truth that God’s Word clearly stresses (Exodus 16:4-15, 31-33; Numbers 20:8; Deuteronomy 8:2-4; 29:5; Psalms 78:26-28; 1 Corinthians 10:4).

Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;

CENSUS OF THE WHOLE ISRAELITE COMMUNITY / NUMBERS 1:2

The purpose of the census was to organize Israel into a nation and an army (Numbers 1:3). Taking a census emphasized that each individual was important to God’s redemptive purposes and that the nation’s activity was to be ordered and fully accountable to Him (Philippians 4:3; 2 Timothy 2:19).
