MY WORDS IN YOUR MOUTH / JEREMIAH 1:9

(KJV) Jeremiah 1:9

Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

MY WORDS IN YOUR MOUTH / JEREMIAH 1:9

The Lord assures Jeremiah that his prophetic message would be God-inspired. The message would come directly from the Lord, and what the prophet said would be exactly what God intended. Literally, Jeremiah’s wors would be God’s wors (Romans 10:8). Fully convinced of this, Jeremiah never compromised, backed down or tried to change the meaning of God’s Word to the people (Jeremiah 37:16-17).

DO NOT BE AFRAID / JEREMIAH 1:8

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Jeremiah 1:8

Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

DO NOT BE AFRAID / JEREMIAH 1:8

Jeremiah was a youth at the time God first revealed His plan of making the young man aware of His life’s mission. He was to deliver a difficult message for God. At first, Jeremiah experienced great anxiety and fear at the overwhelming thought and responsibility of delivering God’s Word to the leaders of Judah (Jeremiah 1:7). God responded to Jeremiah’s concerns by promising to be with him and to empower him for his God-given purpose. No matter what task God gives you in life, He promises to be with you always and help you accomplish it if you remain strong in your faith and devotion to Him. We must also remember that we are never too young – or too old – for God to begin using us in a meaningful and powerful way.

I HAVE HEARD YOUR PRAYER / ISAIAH 38:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Isaiah 38:5
Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

I HAVE HEARD YOUR PRAYER / ISAIAH 38:5

God’s statement that Hezekiah must prepare for death and Hezekiah’s response in prayer to God (Isaiah 38:2) teach us some important truths for our relationship to God.

  1. All the things that God declares about the future are not necessarily unchangeable (John 3:1-10). Often God will describe a situation the way it will be if people continue on a particular path or do not respond as they should to His message. No matter what happens when we are confronted with tragedy, we can be assured that God cares about what happens to us. He is compassionate and sensitive to our experiences and will always do what is best.

Our prayers do have an effect on God, His purposes and the way He works out His perfect plan. We cannot force God to change His plans or cause Him to do things He does not want to do. Rather, our payers often allow us to understand what God desires to do if we are willing to change and come into agreement with His purposes. This means that what happens in our lives or in the life of the church is determined by both God’s plan and our prayers. He gives us a real part in deciding our course of action, directing the outcome of situations and fulfilling His plans. We always must be convinced of the Scriptural truth that prayer does change things (Isaiah 38:4-7; 1 Kings 21:29; Ezekiel 33:13-16; James 5:14-15).

MY SON, WHOM I LOVE / MARK 1:11

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

MY SON, WHOM I LOVE / MARK 1:11

All three persons of the Trinity (the one true God in three distinct, interrelated and unified persons) are involved in Jesus’ baptism (Matthew 3:17).

  1. Here, and in other places throughout the Bible, God is revealed as a single Being (Mark 12:29; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 45:21; Galatians 3:20; 1 Corinthians 8:5-6; Ephesians 4:6; 1 Timothy 2:5), existing in three distinct but interrelated and completely unified persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:4-6; 1 Peter 1:2; Jude 1:20-21). Each person of the Trinity is fully divine (fully God) and equal, possessing all the special characteristics of God; yet they are not three Gods (or three parts of God), but on God. In this way, God is singular (a unity) in one sense and plural (three) in another sense. Another way this concept of God has been described is “three in Person, One in essence.”
  2. We must be careful not to misinterpret this as if the one true God has simply revealed Himself in three different “forms” or expressions at different times throughout history (as if He were God the Father in the Old Testament, Jesus in the New Testament and the Holy Spirit now). Through the centuries such false teaching has brought division in the church. The correct understanding of this doctrine (teaching or basis of belief) is that all three persons of the Godhead exist uniquely at the same time and are so completely united that they form the one true and eternal God. Bothe the Son and the Holy Spirit possess attributes that can only be true of God (Genesis 1:2; Isaiah 61:1; John 1:1, 14; Mark 5:18; 14:16; 16:8, 13; Acts 5:3-4; Romans 8:2, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 2:10-11; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Hebrews 9:14). None of the three persons was ever made or created, but each has always existed with all the character traits, power and glory of God.
  3. This one God existing in three persons means that from all eternity (the infinite past and forever into the future) there has always existed a perfect spiritual unity, a complete love, the expression of godly character traits, an absolute knowledge and a faultless interrelationship within and among the persons of what is referred to as the “Godhead” (John 10:15; 11:27; 17:24; 1 Corinthians 2:10).

THE FIRSTBORN OVER ALL CREATION / COLOSSIANS 1:15

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Colossians 1:15
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

THE FIRSTBORN OVER ALL CREATION / COLOSSIANS 1:15

Paul is not saying that Christ was a created being. The term “firstborn” carries the Old Testament meaning of being “first in position,” “heir” or “supreme” (Exodus 4:22; Jeremiah 31:9) As the eternal Son of God, Christ is heir and ruler of all creation (Colossians 1:18; Hebrews 1:1-20) and is sovereign over all things (He has complete authority, control and power to do as He desires; Colossians 1:16; 2:9-10; Matthew 28:18; 1 Peter 3:22; 2 Peter 2:1; Jude 1:4).

LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS / JOHN 1:5

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 1:5

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

LIGHT SHINES IN THE DARKNESS / JOHN 1:5

John focuses on the strong contrast between the light and darkness (John 12:35). The light of Christ shines in an evil and sinful world (one that is going its own way in rebellion and opposition against God), controlled by Satan. The majority of people in the world have not accepted Jesus’ life or light because these qualities expose their sinful ways. Human nature is drawn toward and prefers to remain in spiritual darkness. But the darkness has not “understood it [the light]” (the darkness has not accepted the light, nor has the darkness overcome the light).

LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF MEN / JOHN 1:4

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) John 1:4

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF MEN / JOHN 1:4

  1. “Life” (Greek zoe) is one of the key themes in John. The term is used 36 times. Jesus is described as the bread of life (John 6:35, 48) and the water of life (John 4:10-11; John 7:38). His words are the words of eternal life (John 6:68). He is the giver of life (John 6:33; 10:10); and life is Christ’s gift (John 10:28). In fact, Christ is “the life” (John 14:6). That is to say, true life is embodied (expressed in a physical form) in Christ (John 14:6) and experienced through a personal relationship with Him (John 17:3).
  2. “Light” (Greek phos) is mentioned 23 times in John’s Gospel, more than any other New Testament book. Jesus’ life was the light for everyone, which means that He revealed God and His plans and showed us the way back to God. God’s truth, nature and power were shown through Christ and are made available to all people through Him (John 8:12; John 12:35-36, 46). Through Jesus we can also become children of light (John 12:36) and can walk in the light (1 John 1:7).

THE ANGELS / JUDE 1:6

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Jude 1:6
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

THE ANGELS / JUDE 1:6

Jude is referring to angels who did not remain in their initial position of authority and service to God. These angels rebelled against God, abandoned their responsibilities, broke His law and became a part of “the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41). Some of these angels are now confined and awaiting judgment. However, we must remember that not all fallen angels are locked up because Satan and many demons are on the earth at the present time (2 Peter 2:4, 1 John 5:19).

ANGELS … SENT THEM TO HELL / 2 PETER 2:4

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) 2 Peter 2:4

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

ANGELS … SENT THEM TO HELL / 2 PETER 2:4

In no other place in the New Testament do we find the use of the Greek term tartarus translated here as “hell.” The term was used by the Greeks to designate the place where wicked spirits were sent for punishment. It seems that Peter used the term to describe a place reserved for angels who rebelled against God at some point (possibly during the time on Noah, 2 Peter 2:5). It could also refer in general to the angels who were in partnership with Satan when he rebelled against God (Ezekiel 28:12), or the demons spoken of in the New Testament. Why some of the evil spirits are confined to “gloomy dungeons” and some are free to work with Satan on earth is not explained in Scripture (Jude 1:6).

The male child is Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:15), and the snatching up of the child refers to His ascension into heaven after His resurrection (Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9-11).
