A FESTIVAL / EXODUS 10:9

The request to make a three day journey to worship the Lord was sincere. But there was no promise that the Israelites would return. Pharaoh seemed to have realized this (Exodus 10:11, 24).

(KJV) Exodus 10:1-2

And the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him: 2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son’s son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the Lord.

YOU MAY TELL YOUR CHILDREN / EXODUS 10:1-2

God revealed His great power and protection over Israel so that they would come to know, accept and follow Him as their God. Centuries earlier He chose Abraham with the purpose that he should teach his children to know and follow the Lord (Genesis 18:19). Later, He commanded the Israelites to diligently teach their children the words of the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:7). God knew that if His people failed to take this responsibility seriously, the next generation would reject Him and His righteous ways.

SEVEN EYES ON THAT ONE STONE / ZECHARIAH 3:9

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Zachariah 3:9

For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

SEVEN EYES ON THAT ONE STONE / ZECHARIAH 3:9

The stone is another symbol of the Messiah, or Christ (Isaiah 28:16; 1 Peter 2:6). The seven eyes represent complete insight, omniscience (the characteristic of being “all-knowing”) and divine intelligence (Revelation 5:6). Christ would remove sin in a single day, referring to the day He died on the cross to pay the full penalty for our sins.

GOOD FRIDAY APRIL 18, 2025

Good Friday is the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and is the day Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross. We can celebrate on Good Friday because Christ’s death was a sacrifice so that we could receive the gift of eternal life. The Bible tells us that Jesus bore our sins, shame, and burden on the cross. The results changed the course of humanity and what man meant for evil through killing Jesus; God meant for good!

1 Peter 2:24 – He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

Mark 9:31 – For he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”

Mark 10:34 – And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”

Isaiah 53:5 – But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

Romans 5:6-10 – For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

Mark 8:31 – And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Matthew 12:40 – For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

MY SERVANT THE BRANCH / ZECHARIAH 3:8

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Zechariah 3:8

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.

MY SERVANT THE BRANCH / ZECHARIAH 3:8

Joshua and the other priests were prophetic “types” (people who served as symbols of other things or persons), pointing to the work of God’s servant, the Branch (Isaiah 4:2, 11:1; Jeremiah 23:5). The angel of the Lord (Christ, Zechariah 1:12), who had stood by and supervised Joshua’s cleansing and restoration (Zechariah 3:5), is now identified as the Branch. This name typically referred to the fact that Christ came from the “root” or family tree of King David, the line through which God promised to preserve Israel and eventually send the Messiah – the ultimate King of Israel. The Branch would carry our sins and restore our relationship with God (Isaiah 53:1-6).  He would defeat the power of Satan by taking the filthy clothes of the world’s sins on Himself, dying in our place and paying the ultimate penalty for humanity’s offenses against God.

IF YOU WILL WALK IN MY WAYS / Zechariah 3:7

God’s personal message to Joshua strongly encouraged him to follow the Lord and obey His requirements. If Joshua did so, he would serve in a position of authority in the temple and have open access to God’s throne room in heaven, where the angels serve. We too can have open access to heaven’s court through prayer if we humbly obey God and serve His purposes.

I WILL PUT RICH GARMENTS ON YOU / ZECHARIAH 3:4

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Zechariah 3:4

And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

I WILL PUT RICH GARMENTS ON YOU / ZECHARIAH 3:4

God had Joshua’s filthy clothes removed, symbolizing the removal of his (and Israel’s) sin. He then was clothed in clean and costly garments and had a clean turban placed on his head. This meant that he had been fully restored to his role as high priest and that he was able to mediate, or intercede to restore harmony and bring reconciliation, between God and His people. This process represented how God would cleanse all His people from sin and “clothe” them with His righteousness. This same spiritual cleansing is available to us through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7; Romans 1:16-17; 3:22, 25-26).

REBUKE YOU SATAN! / ZECHARIAH 3:2

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Zechariah 3:2

And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

REBUKE YOU SATAN! / ZECHARIAH 3:2

As Israel’s representative, Joshua in his own power could not resist Satan, for the high priest was dressed in filthy clothes (representing Israel’s sin).

  1. God Himself resisted Satan and discredited (proved to be wrong) his accusations. God had chosen Israel to carry out His purposes, and nothing could stop His plans. 
  2. Israel was a “burning stick snatched from the fire.” The fire represents Israel’s judgment and suffering during the Babylonian exile (when the Babylonians conquered and destroyed Jerusalem over 70 years before and deported the people throughout the empire). God had brought Israel through these sufferings, not to destroy them, but to discipline them. SATAN STANDING AT HIS RIGHT SIDE TO ACCUSE HIM / ZECHARIAH 3:1

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Zechariah 3:1

And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

SATAN STANDING AT HIS RIGHT SIDE TO ACCUSE HIM / ZECHARIAH 3:1

Joshua (spelled “Jeshua” in Ezekiel 2:2 and Nehemiah 7:7) was representing the nation of Israel to God (Zechariah 1:2). Satan, “the accuser” (Matthew 4:10), was there to oppose him. This explains that all of the opposition to the temple rebuilding project really was coming from Satan. He is still our adversary today, the “accuser of our brothers” (Revelation 12:10), who always tries to take advantage of us. When Christians face opposition, they must keep in mind that their real enemy is Satan and his forces of evil; our battle is with him, not with other people.

I HAVE RAISED YOU UP FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE / EXODUS 9:15-16

For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth. 16 And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

I HAVE RAISED YOU UP FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE / EXODUS 9:15-16

Pharaoh deserved to die when he first said, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey Him” (Exodus 2). But instead of destroying him, God allowed him to experience plague after plague so he and the entire world would witness God’s power.
