KNOWING GOOD AND EVIL / GENESIS 3:22

(KJV) Genesis 3:22
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

KNOWING GOOD AND EVIL / GENESIS 3:22

Adam and Eve had attempted to act and think on an equal with God. They tried to set their own standards for life (Genesis 3:5). To some extent, they did become independent of God and were able to decide what was good or evil.

  1. Among humanity that does not know and trust in God, human judgment that is farm from what God intended often decides what is good or evil. This was never God’s will because He intended for us to know only good as we depended on Him and His Word.

All who accept Christ’s forgiveness and confess Him as Lord, the loving Leader and authority of their lives, return to God’s original purpose for their lives. They rely on God’s Word to determine what is good, right and true. A moral compass is restored.

NOT INHERIT THE KINDOM OF GOD /GALATIANS 5:21

Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

NOT INHERIT THE KINDOM OF GOD /GALATIANS 5:21

Although Paul maintains that it is impossible to earn a right relationship with God and eternal life in heaven by keeping the law or by following religious routines (Galatians 2:16; 5:4), he does teach that it is possible to shut oneself out of the kingdom by engaging in evil behaviors (1 Corinthians 6:9; Matthew 25:41; Matthew 25:40-46; Ephesians 5:7-11).

GOD SAID LET US – LET US MAKE MAN / GENESIS 1:26

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

(KJV) Genesis 1:26

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

GOD SAID LET US – LET US MAKE MAN / GENESIS 1:26

The use of the word “us” (plural) suggests that God has a certain plurality, or multi-faceted nature (Psalms 2:7; Isaiah 48:16). This seems to be an early reference to the trinity, or the existence of God in three distinct but interrelated and unified Persons. The tri-unity (“three-in-One” nature) of God does not become clear, however, until the New Testament (Matthew 3:17; Mark 1:11).

LET US MAKE MAN

In Genesis 1:26-28 we read about the creation of human beings. More specific details about their creation and environment are found in Genesis 2:4-25. These two accounts work together to teach several things:

  1. Both man and woman are God’s special creation, not products of evolution (Genesis 1:27; Matthew 19:4; Mark 10:6).
  2. Man and woman were both created in God’s “image” and “likeness,” which means they could respond to a unique personal relationship with God that reflected His love and character. Each person was created to know and obey God willingly (Genesis 2:15-17). (a) They possessed a moral likeness to God as sinless and holy creations, with wise minds, loving hearts and the desire to do right (Ephesians 4:24). Their personal relationship with God involved moral obedience (Genesis 2:16-17) and intimate spiritual union. When Adam and Eve sinned, that moral likeness to God was corrupted, or made impure (Genesis 6:5). God renews that original moral likeness in those who turn from their own sinful ways and trust Him to lead their lives (Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:10). God provided this opportunity through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus willingly gave His perfect life through death to pay the penalty for our rebellion against God (1 Peter 3:18). (b) Adam and Eve possessed a natural likeness to God. They were created as personal beings with spirit, mind, emotions, self-awareness and power of choice (Genesis 2:19-20; 3:6-7; 9:6). (c) Man, and woman’s physical characteristics also reflect God’s image in a way that is not true of animals. God gave humans the same form in which He would visibly appear to them (Genesis 18:1-2). This is the form in which His Son, Jesus, came to earth (Luke 1:35; Philippians 2:7; Hebrews 10:5).
  3. Being made in God’s image does not mean that humans are divine beings (like “gods”). They have been created on a lower level than God and are dependent on Him (Psalms 8:5).
  4. All human life has continued through God’s first created man (Adam) and woman (Eve) (Genesis 3:20; Romans 5:12)

SATAN HIMSELF MASQUERADES AS AN ANGEL OF LIGHT / 2 CORINTHIANS 11:14

We must be very aware and sober about the nature and deceptiveness of evil. We must always pray for spiritual wisdom and discernment because things are not always as they appear – particularly things that seem good, innocent, pleasing and beneficial, yet they deny some element of Biblical truth. This is true of people, organizations, religious philosophies, political strategies, social causes or anything ese that tries to involve or influence people. Even Satan tries to pass himself off as an angel of light when in reality he is the ruler of darkness.

DRAGON … BOUND HIM FOR A THOUSAND YEARS / REVELATION 20:2

DRAGON … BOUND HIM FOR A THOUSAND YEARS / REVELATION 20:2

After Christ’s return and the events of Revelation 19, Satan will be bound and imprisoned for a thousand years so that he may not do his evil work or deceive anyone during the time when Christ rules the earth in perfect peace and justice. This would completely eliminate the devil’s influence during this time. After the thousand years, he will be released for a short time in order to deceive any whose own hearts lean toward rebellion against God’s rule (Revelation 20:3; Revelation 20:7; Revelation 20:8; Revelation 20:9). This will include people who are born during this time to those who were still alive at the end of the tribulation. (Those who returned with Christ to share in His victory and rule during the millennium will have their new glorified bodies and will not have children, nor will they be susceptible to Satan’s temptations.) Satan’s most characteristic work is to deceive (Genesis 3:13; Matthew 24:24; 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10; 1 Peter 5:8).

I WILL GREATLY INCREASE YOUR PAINS / GENESIS 3:16-19

START YOUR DAY RIGHT DAILY DEVOTION

I WILL GREATLY INCREASE YOUR PAINS / GENESIS 3:16-19

The punishment placed on man and woman as well as sin’s effect on nature, were meant to remind people of the terrible costs resulting from sin and cause them to trust, obey and rely on God. The consequences God declared on humans were meant to lead them back to dependence on God.

  1. Eve’s attempt to be independent from God and her husband would be turned in the opposite direction in an even stronger desire to please her husband. This desire and dependence would bring a mix of suffering and joy, trouble and blessing (Genesis 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 11:7-9; Ephesians 5:22-25; 1 Timothy 2:11-14).

Because of God’s curse on nature, Adam and Eve would experience physical hardships and struggles. Eventually, physical death would come to them and all their offspring.

ANOTHER HORN / DANIEL 8:9-10

Out of one of the horns came another horn that “started small,” referring to the Greek ruler, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, who in 168 B.C. set up an image of the Greek god Zeus in the Jerusalem temple and sacrificed a pig on the altar (Daniel 8:23-25). Judas Maccabeus later recaptured Jerusalem, purifying and rededicating the temple and altar to the true God (165 B.C.).

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

KILL ALL THE BOYS / MATTHEW 2:16

Bethlehem (a village about five miles south of Jerusalem) and the surrounding area were small. It most likely had a population of between one and two thousand. Based on this estimate, the number of male children slain would have been around twenty.

MY SON TODAY I HAVE BECOME YOUR FATHER / PSALMS 2:7

(KJV) Psalms 2:7

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

MY SON TODAY I HAVE BECOME YOUR FATHER / PSALMS 2:7

“Become your father” literally translates “brought you forth.” A similar phrase was used to describe a woman giving birth, but it was also a technical term for a king presenting his son before the people. The king proclaimed, or officially announced, his son as king along with his father (1 Kings 1:32-34, where David did this for his son, Solomon). Here it applies to Jesus’ public proclamation as God’s Son and His anointing (commissioning, empowerment, authority) as the ultimate prophet, priest, and king (Matthew 3:12; Acts 13:33; Hebrews 1:5; 5:5; 7:28; 2 Peter 1:21).
