CARRY EACH OTHER’S BURDENS / GALATIANS 6:2

To carry each other’s burdens (concerns, problems, difficult responsibilities) includes helping people in times of sickness, sorrow and financial stress. It involves praying earnestly for people as well as helping to meet their needs in tangible, practical ways. Paul may have in mind the support of missionaries and teachers (Galatians 6:6; Romans 15:1; 1 Corinthians 9:14). To carry another’s burden is a godly quality (Psalms 55:22; 1 Peter 5:7).

RESTORE HIM GENTLY / GALATIANS 6:1

(KJV) Galatians 6:1

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

RESTORE HIM GENTLY / GALATIANS 6:1

The word “restore” (Greek katartizo) is used in the New Testament for mending fishing nets (Matthew 4:21), but in reference to people it means developing and perfecting human character (2 Corinthians 13:11). With this in mind, Christians must help wayward believers to mend and heal spiritually by guiding them in their desire and efforts to turn from their own defiant ways, to surrender to Christ’s control and to renew their full devotion to Jesus Christ. This may involve disciplinary action (Matthew 13:30), which should be done humbly and firmly, but “gently.”

Paul here is not thinking of the serious sins and open and unashamed moral violations that bring public disgrace to Christ and the congregation (1 Corinthians 5:5). Such sins may require temporary exclusion from the church before restoration is granted (1 Corinthians 5:11).

These are the same words that God used to introduce Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14. Notice that Jesus did not say “I was” but “I am,” expressing His eternal nature, His limitless capabilities and His oneness with God the Father.

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

IF GOD WERE YOUR FATHER / JOHN 8:42

Here Jesus states a basic principle of spiritual salvation. That is, the evidence of being a true child of God is seen in one’s attitude of love for Jesus. For this reason, the Christian must show his or her devotion and faith through obedience to God and His Word. After all, in one of John’s other letters (the book of 1 John) he writes: “This is love for God: to obey His commands” (John 5:3). Those who do not do this prove that they are not God’s children (John 8:31; John 10:2-5, 14, 27-28; 14:15, 21).

Whether they recognize it or not, people who do not have a personal relationship with Christ are slaves to sin, Satan and their own immoral behavior (John 8:34; Romans 6:17-20). They follow the selfish desires and cravings of their own sinful nature and the ways of the devil (Ephesians 2:1-3).

  1. True followers of Christ, who rely on the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit who lives in them, are set free from the power of sin and immorality (Romans 6:17-22; 8:1-17). When they face temptations, they now have the power to do what God desires and requires. They are free to be God’s servants and to do what is right (Romans 6:18, 22).
  2. Freedom from slavery to sin (from constantly giving in to temptation and experiencing the consequences of going own our own way) is one sure standard by which we can tell if we are truly following Christ. If we have a personal relationship with Christ, it should be evident that God’s power has changed our lives and is continuing to transform our character, making us more like Jesus. Anyone who is presently caught up in immoral and ungodly behavior either has never experienced true spiritual birth (salvation) or has given themselves back over to sin and come from slavery to sin (Romans 6:16, 21, 23; 8:12-13; 1 John 3:15).
  3. This does not mean that Christians are free from doing spiritual battle against sin. Throughout our lives, we will have to constantly fight against the pressures of the world, our own sinful nature (natural-born tendencies) and the forces of Satan (Galatians 5:17-18; Ephesians 6:11-12). Complete freedom from temptation and the influence of sin will come only after we die and go to be with Christ or when Christ returns for His faithful followers. What Christ offers us now is His life-changing power to help us overcome evil and temptation and to grow spiritually. This power, given through the Holy Spirit, can set us free from the tendency to defy God and go our own way (Galatians 5:16-24) and can enable us to live in a spiritually pure and blameless way (Ephesians 1:4).

Welcome to the first month of a brand new year! As we turn the page from 2025, January 2026 feels like a fresh canvas—full of possibilities, crisp winter air and that classic motivation to set intentions and chase goals.

Goodbye to the lessons, triumphs, and challenges of 2025. Hello to 2026: a year that promises growth, surprises, and hopefully a lot more joy. Whether you’re easing into Dry January, embracing Veganuary, or just committing to more self-care after the holiday rush, this month is perfect for resetting.

Many of us are reflecting on the past year while looking ahead. January is buzzing with change.

Heavenly Father, as we step into the fresh dawn of January, we come before You with grateful hearts, seeking Your guidance and strength for the year ahead. Bless this month with hope and renewal, like the first light breaking through winter’s chill. Fill us with courage to embrace new beginnings, wisdom to discern Your path, and love to share with those around us. Grant us peace amidst the cold, clarity in our resolutions, and steadfast faith to trust Your divine plan. May every step we take this month draw us closer to You, reflecting our grace in all we do.
